Physical Education

Sport and exercise are very important at King's High, both in terms of participation and performance.  We want all girls to make the most of the fantastic opportunities we provide.  We offer a blend of the traditional and the progressive.

We aims to provide a range of experiences that will allow every pupils to develop her talents and abilities to the full.  This generates confidence, enthusiasm and an enjoyment of physical exercise and sporting activity that will last throughout a girl's life.

We also aim to achieve full participation, assisting each girl to fulfill her true potential and attain excellence, both at individual and team level in a variety of sports.  In recent years we have been National Champions in waterpolo and clay pigeon shooting.  In addition we have been National finalists in hockey, netball and swimming as well as regional finalists in tennis and athletics.  Most fixtures take place on Saturday mornings with training sessions for the squads during lunch times or after school.  We also have evening fixtures with local schools.

In 2015-2016 we were County champions 9 times in various age groups in hockey and netball and 5 times in tennis, athletics and cross country.  Many of our students go on to represent the county, region or the country.  A number of these students are supported by the Talented Athletes Programme (TAP).  This is a scheme for our most able athletes with an aim to assist them with the challenges of combining study with top level sport.  This programme includes access to performance sport mentors, university visits, practical workshops and visits from professional athletes.

Numbers of our girls voluntarily attend the vast array of co-curricular practices and clubs which range from badminton to yoga and hip hop to martial arts.  The activities provided by the department achieve the balance of catering for both the recreational participant and the talent athlete.  The department has a team of skilled teacher and are supported by  well qualified coaches.  Facilities include new state of the art 'blue' hockey pitches and netball courts as well as a fitness suite, sports hall, gymnasium and tennis courts.

Physical Education is offered at  GCSE and A level.  Staff are always striving to provide innovative ways of teaching to enthuse the students and to enable them to achieve their very best.
