The Admissions Process
King’s High is an academically selective school. As is common with most independent schools, an examination determines where your daughter is educationally, and whether she can reach her full potential with us. Rather than be a hot house of education, we believe that given the right environment girls find their own motivation and thrive. Indeed, we often see a girl’s potential more clearly than she does herself.
We ask the Head of each girl’s current school to provide a report and indicate whether they feel King’s is the right school for her. Acceptance also depends on an informal interview with a senior member of staff. To apply, please download our application form here and return it, with the registration fee, to the Registrar. If you think you may be eligible for financial assistance please complete the relevant section of the form.
Entry at Year 7
We usually accept between 85 and 95 pupils in Year 7, using the 1 September birthday watershed for determining eligibility.
The entrance examination consists of papers in English (30 minutes), Mathematics (45 minutes) and Verbal Reasoning (60 minutes including 15 minutes practice). To download specimen examination papers in English and Mathematics and for further information on Verbal Reasoning, please refer to the Entrance Examination section.
Interviews are held the week after the examination and take the form of a short group interview with a senior member of staff.
You will be notified of the results and details of any financial assistance that we can offer soon after the interview. Successful girls and their parents will be invited into school during the summer term to receive more information and meet their Form Tutors.
Mid Year Entry
Places occasionally become available in Years 8 and 9 and we are usually able to accept a few girls into the GCSE course at the start of Year 10.
Acceptance is normally based on performance in an examination in English, Mathematics and a Modern Foreign Language, an interview and a report from your daughter’s current school. This enables us to make a rounded assessment of whether King’s is the right environment in which to develop her potential.
