We were pleased to welcome old girl Elizabeth Carter (KHS 1947 - 1953), now Mrs. Cheverton, with her husband Malcolm, for her first trip back to her old school since the summer of Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation, despite living just down the road in Leamington! Betty, as she is known, had a career in banking after KHS, pausing to bring up two daughters and a son, and to write poetry.
Betty and Malcolm spent an ‘amazing morning’ wandering round the buildings familiar and new, and were delighted to meet the present day headmistress, Mrs. Surber, and her ‘wonderful girls’.

Betty continues ‘they were so eager, smiling and beautifully mannered. I do hope we were as pleasant in my time!’. She was pleased that Mrs. Surber did not inspire the same fear in her as did one of her own headmistresses, Miss Hare, and recalled sitting on a seat in Landor Hall, waiting to be summoned for punishment.
It was fitting that her tour guide, prefect Kate, is herself the daughter of an old girl.
If any other old girls would like to have a tour of their old school, Mrs. Surber and the Development Office would love to welcome you back. Please get in touch with the Development Office: development@kingshighwarwick.co.uk or via the school address.
