Reviews of Marking

The form and details of the different review of marking services can be downloaded from here. This also contains the dates by which each service should be requested. If you require any further advice or assistance please do not hesitate to contact the examinations office or Mr Bethel Deputy Head (Academic).

It should be noted that reviews of marking may cause marks to go down as well as up.

A review of marking is subtly different from a ‘re-mark’ of the script. When the marking is reviewed it will be looked at by a more senior examiner where there is a more senior examiner available. This reviewer will see the original marks and comments made by the original examiner. The purpose of this process is to evaluate whether the mark scheme was appropriately applied by the original examiner. If a script was initially marked by the senior examiner in that subject there will be no higher authority to whom it may be referred for review and so will be reviewed by the original marker.

There are various stages of appeal that are possible if you are still not satisfied with the way that your script has been marked. These are available from Mr Bethel or the examinations department. However it is only possible to appeal on the grounds that the examination boards own procedures have not been adhered to. It is not possible to appeal against the actual marking of the paper.
