Music

Extra-curricular music activities are open to all and play an important part in the life of the school with approximately 250 girls attending lunch hour practices.   Vocal groups are organised by age, and membership of instrumental ensembles is determined by standard of performance.

Chamber Ensembles  

Together with Warwick School, we offer places in the Foundation Wind Band and Foundation Orchestra for girls with at least Grade 5 at a good standard.   Auditions are not usually necessary.   Foundation Choir is for girls in Year 9 and above with no audition.

 

Concerts

The department has a busy concert programme, including junior and senior concerts and musicals, an annual Carol Service at St Mary’s Church, joint projects with Warwick School and regular workshops and trips.

  • Armed Man Jenkins
  • Dido and Aeneas Purcell
  • Les Miserables
  • Shostakovich Symphony no 5
  • Music for Youth
  • National Windband Festival
  • Local Festivals

Orchestras

Girls are also regular members of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, National Children’s Orchestra, National Youth Choir of Great Britain, City of Birmingham Youth Orchestra, City of Birmingham Youth Chorus, Coventry Youth Orchestra.

 

Scholarships 

Music Scholarships are awarded up to the value of 25% of fees based on musical ability and potential (assessed by audition) with a satisfactory level of achievement in the entrance examination. These take place in the Spring Term.

There are also Sixth Form Performance Awards which are assessed purely on performance.
