Choosing a University and Career

Our careers department provides each girl with guidance and support, enabling her to develop her skills and make well-informed decisions. Our careers and education guidance programme incorporates a variety of activities:

  • A careers evening takes place at the beginning of each Autumn term, providing parents and girls with information about the careers and higher education guidance we offer. There is also a Careers Evening specifically for Year 12 at the beginning of the Spring Term.
  • From Years 7 –13 we encourage girls to develop and nurture their interests and skills. In Years 9-13 we talk to each girl so that she can discuss her aspirations for the future with a member of the careers team, who advises her accordingly. - and encourages her to take a pro-active, upbeat approach to her career planning.
  • Careers skills workshops: at the beginning of the Autumn term Year 13 students attend an Independent Schools Careers Organisation workshop where they practise interview skills and techniques that will prove invaluable in university and job interviews. - This no longer happens.
  • Careers presentations: throughout the year an interesting and varied range of speakers talk to girls about potential career options and university opportunities. Training sessions include workshops by university liaison officers on personal statements and sessions on interview and presentation skills by professional advisors.

Each Year 10-11 student takes the Morrisby Profiling test and receives an in-depth report which includes analysis ofher strengths with suggestions for careers and advice on A level choice. Individual interviews with ISCO advisors throughout Year 11-12 constitute a key part of each students career planning.

There are two careers resources rooms within school that offer students a wealth of resources on career choice, university courses and gap year opportunities. Students in Year 9 and Year 12 attend careers lessons and receive training in the latest careers profiling software and websites that enhance careers research.

Year 12 students embark on a wide range of work experience placements to enhance their profiles at leading companies and local businesses as well as within the NHS.
