One set of technical specialists leave school for a well-earned break and another set come in.

Good progress if being made with the many and varied maintenance works planned over the summer period.

Raising the roof

The main project underway is the raising of the roof in the Dining Hall. This preparatory work to the dining facility is to allow a mezzanine level to be put in which will accommodate a third more girls in due course. The work will be complete before the beginning of the autumn term, and work will commence on the dining hall itself in Easter 2011.

The work has uncovered the original external wall of Landor House - not seen for some considerable time. The building itself was built just before the Great Fire of Warwick in 1692-93 and was the birthplace of Walter Savage Landor, born in 1775.

Leavers' Dinner

Year 13s, together with parents and teachers, were able to enjoy a final dinner together at King’s High School on Thursday 8 July. Mrs Surber welcomed the girls and everyone gathered on Red Lawn for drinks before they entered the Hall which was colourfully decorated in an “Under the Sea” theme. The evening was a chance for pupils to reminisce about their time at King’s High and the evening was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Speech Day 2010

The annual “Speech Day” is one of the most important events in the King’s High School calendar. Pupils, parents, friends, teachers and Governors gather to celebrate the success of the previous school year and to congratulate the girls who have won individual prizes and awards. This year the event was held in a Marquee in the grounds of Warwick School on Thursday 8 July and our distinguished Guest Speaker was Professor Anne Glover, Chief Scientific Advisor for Scotland.

End of Term Entertainment - Staff go Gaga!

On the last day of term the girls were treated to some entertainment from the staff. In a surprise performance, the staff donned some interesting and some outrageous outfits and performed a medley of recent and past hits for the girls. “Bad Romance” by Lady Gaga was the most memorable performance with some familiar faces appearing in the most unfamiliar roles! “Thank-you for the Music” and Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” also went down well with the girls and put a smile on their faces at the end of an enjoyable year.

Fund-raising for the New Iris Lees Centre

King’s High is continuing to support the new Iris Lees Centre, recently raising money from a "Krispy Kreme Doughnut" sale. A group of Year 10 girls visited the new day centre at Saltisford Gardens Community Centre where they were happy to present the cheque from their fund-raising efforts.

The residents of Iris Lees also enjoyed a performance from the members of ‘Constellation’ who sang beautifully for them.

Summer Barbecue 2010

Glorious weather added the finishing touch to our Old Girls Summer Barbecue on July 3 2010. A substantial number of Old Girls, many accompanied by husbands/partners and children gathered in the lovely garden of the New Bowling Green Inn, Warwick, to enjoy an informal family afternoon of friendship, fun, relaxation and the tastiest home-made burgers ever! Although most of the Old Girls lived locally, some had travelled a distance to attend, the furthest flung having driven up from deepest Dorset.

90s Decade Day

Sixty-five Old Girls and members of staff attended the 90s Decade Day on June 26 2010. On arrival, prefects escorted Old Girls to the new Sixth Form Centre, where they were welcomed by OGA secretary Polly Beidas, and drinks were served. Many comments were heard about how luxuriously the sixth formers are catered for today, compared to the facilities available in the 90s!

Field Day

The girls showed great team spirit and enthusiasm at Field Day on Tuesday 29th June. Despite the heat, the girls were keen to encourage each other and a fun day was had by all.

Annie

This year’s Key Stage 3 production of “Annie” was a real triumph with a heart-felt performance by Ronay Poole as the lead. Every member of the cast played their part with passion and conviction; the sets and costumes were equal to those you would see in a West End production and the orchestra played beautifully holding the whole performance together perfectly.

24 Hour Badminton

Badminton enthusiasts from King’s High School completed a 24-hour sponsored badminton session on Saturday 12 June in order to raise money for a forthcoming philanthropic trip by the girls to India.

Key Stage 3 Concert

Parents, Governors and Teachers were treated to a great display of musical talent when Key Stage 3 performed a concert on Tuesday 8th June. The pupils showcased a wide variety of music from classical to contemporary beginning with the orchestra playing the James Bond Theme by Mancini and finishing with the choir singing "You raise me up" by Cohen. Vocal talents were highlighted with songs from musicals including Annie which King's High is performing at the Bridge House Theatre from 24th - 26th June. The concert was extremely entertaining and was enjoyed by all who came.
