Leading change – first King’s High pupil to lead the Combined Cadet Force

Cadet Sergeant Major (CSM) Rachel (Year 13) is the first ever King’s High pupil to lead the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) at King’s High and Warwick School. As Senior Cadet, Rachel has been at the forefront of changes within the CCF, ultimately leading to the equality of provision we have today.

Rachel has had a busy time in her role. She led the CCF and gave the Royal Salute during the visit of HRH The Princess Royal. She took lead roles in Remembrance events at King’s High and Warwick. She appeared on stage at the Butterworth Hall at Warwick University, and laid a wreath in Warwick on Remembrance Sunday, on behalf of the Foundation. Her leadership comes at a time when there is a record number of cadets – 330 - in the CCF.

The Combined Cadet Force (CCF) is a voluntary Afternoon Activity open to pupils at King’s High and Warwick School in Year 9 and above. The over-riding aim of training in the CCF is to develop leadership, teamwork, initiative and self-reliance.

Activities include the popular Easter Adventurous Training in the Lake District (mountain biking, kayaking, climbing, abseiling, and mountain walking), competitions, and exercises at local military bases. The CCF offers camps each summer holiday for a week’s training at a regular army training camp run by the Army Cadet Training Teams. In addition, we offer our own training exercise at Nesscliff Army Training Camp each October as well as internal leadership courses.
