How to join King’s High School

If you are looking for a place in Year 8 or Year 9, the first step is to enquire with our Admissions team about the availability of places in these year groups. Places will be limited for these year groups but we do typically admit a small number of girls each year. Our Admissions team will be able to tell you if there are places in the year group of interest.

Once you have established that there is space in the year group, we would recommend your next step to be a visit to King’s High School if you have not already been. This can be in the form of a private tour during the school day, or on an open day.

When you are satisfied that King’s High School is the right place for your daughter, then it’s time to make an application and pay the registration fee. You can do this via our simple online form. We run assessments for these year groups regularly throughout the year when we have spaces for new joiners so we encourage early registration as places do fill up fast.

All girls applying to King’s High School will take part in a short interview with a senior member of staff at the School. This may happen on the same day as the assessment but if we have a larger number of candidates, it may be necessary to invite girls back in on a different day. We will communicate this to you clearly at the time.

Once we have your application, you will be invited to an assessment day where your daughter will sit entrance assessments relevant to her age and stage you wish her to join the School.

We will make offers as promptly as possible after the assessments and interviews. We will communicate with you whether your daughter is being offered a place or not and the offers will be made via email using the email addresses provided when you registered.

Please note that the application form requires a personal statement from each girl who is applying to join the School.

The main deadline for Year 12 applications is usually in the February of the year of joining. These deadlines for each year can be found on our key dates pages. If you are making a late application for Year 12 (after the initial deadline), please contact our Admissions team first to ensure we have spaces before registering.

All girls applying to King’s High School will take part in an interview with a senior member of staff at the School. This will usually happen shortly after your application has been received and you will be sent an invitation for your daughter’s specific timeslot. We will also require a report from your daughter’s current school with predicted GCSE grades to help us to assess whether we can offer based on the A Level choices she has made. All candidates must also meet the academic requirements for the sixth form.

When we have made a decision about whether we can offer a conditional place, we will be in touch. At this stage, offers to study in the Sixth Form are conditional because we require the applicant to attain the required grades in their GCSEs. We will communicate with you whether your daughter is being offered a place or not and the offers will be made via email using the email addresses provided when you registered.

If you have been made a conditional offer of a place, we will ask you to accept your place by a deadline which will be clearly communicated on your offer letter. To accept your place, we require a copy of the acceptance form signed by all parents with parental responsibility unless we already know that this is not possible (typed signatures are not permitted). We will also ask for payment of the acceptance deposit at the same time – more details on this can be found in your offer letter.

On GCSE results day, we require proof of your daughter’s GCSE grades to confirm her place at King’s High School. We ask that these are sent to us as soon as possible so that we can begin the enrolment process for her time at King’s High School to start as smoothly as possible. If she has not met the academic requirements of her offer, depending on her grades, it may be possible to change her A Level subject choices. If this is not the case, or she does not want to change, then you will be released from the terms of the contract only if the academic requirements of her offer have not been met.

If your daughter’s place is confirmed, she is ready to become a part of our King’s High School community and full details about the start of term will be communicated to you.

We are delighted to welcome girls from Year 9 upwards to become boarders at King’s High School. If you are applying as a UK pupil and are currently at a UK school, then you will follow the process for the relevant year group. If you are applying as an overseas pupil and / or you are currently at a school overseas, the process will be slightly different.

The first step is to check that we have space in the year group of interest. We typically admit boarders into Year 9 and Year 10 (for GCSEs) and Year 12 (for A Levels). Once you have done that, you may wish to arrange either an in-person visit, if you are likely to be in the UK, an online meeting, or meet one of the School’s representatives abroad. Whichever route you chose, our Admissions team will be able to organise visits and meetings, answer all of your questions, put you in touch with our boarding team and introduce you to life in King’s High.

As soon as we have your registration form, we will be in touch. There are no set deadlines for boarding places but with a limited number of beds in our boarding house, places do fill fast.

Once we have your application, we will contact you or your agent to arrange entrance assessments – these will be in English and mathematics. The mathematics paper for Year 12 will depend on the subjects the student wishes to pursue at A Level. The assessments are carried out online and can be done in-person at King’s High, at an applicant’s current school or agent’s offices if they are willing to invigilate, or via remote invigilation.

If you have been made an offer of a place, we will ask you to accept your place by a deadline which is dependent on the time of year. This will be clearly communicated on your offer letter. To accept your place, we require a copy of the acceptance form signed by all parents with parental responsibility unless we already know that this is not possible (typed signatures are not permitted). We will also ask for payment of the acceptance deposit at the same time – more details on this can be found in your offer letter.

Once we have your acceptance forms and your deposit, you are ready to become a part of our King’s High School community. More details about your daughter’s start at King’s High School will be sent between acceptance of the offer and his start date. The Boarding team will also be in touch at this point to begin to make plans for her arrival at School.

For those girls who require sponsorship for their visas to study at King’s High, we will send additional paperwork to be completed before we can issue a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) to support the visa process. Subject to the satisfactory completion of this paperwork, and all UKVI requirements being met, we will be able to issue this CAS near the start of the summer term before your daughter joins us.
