Pastoral care

Way House is led by our experienced House Parent, Ms Kirsten Cooper, supported by her husband, Benjamin Bollans, and Assistant House Parent, Miss Chloe Britton-Powell. Together, they ensure that a House Parent is on duty every day, providing 24-hour care and support for your daughter.

The residential team is further strengthened by a two experienced Boarding House Supervisors, who oversee the smooth day-to-day running of Way House, alongside a dedicated housekeeper who maintains a clean, safe, and comfortable environment.

Boarding Tutors complete the team, with teaching staff regularly visiting and supervising the house during evenings and weekends. This ensures pupils benefit from additional academic support when needed, as well as staff involvement in the many trips and activities enjoyed by our boarding community at King’s High.

All boarding staff are First Aid trained and bring many years of experience in working with boarders, ensuring each pupil benefits fully from the opportunities available.

Pastoral care lies at the heart of boarding, and we take our responsibility for the pupils in our care very seriously. The school’s robust pastoral support system runs alongside the experienced team of boarding staff.

House Parents have extensive safeguarding training and experience in pastoral care. All boarding staff and undergo rigorous pre-employment checks and undertake regular training to ensure they are able to meet the needs of every pupil in their care.

As part of your daughter’s enrolment at King’s, you will complete a comprehensive medical questionnaire to provide us with the information we need to care for her appropriately. In addition, during the Induction Programme, your daughter will have a medical assessment and complete a detailed health questionnaire.

The school has a medical centre staffed by a qualified nurse, to whom pupils can turn whenever they need attention. Should a pupil become unwell, she will receive the highest standard of care, both within the boarding house and in the medical centre.

All boarding pupils are registered with a local GP and are entitled to receive medical treatment for any issues while in the UK. Ophthalmic and dental treatment is also arranged as required.

All international pupils are required to have a UK based Guardian. Guardians are required to be available to host the pupil in emergency situations and will also host the pupils during holidays if they are not returning home.

While the school is unable to recommend individual guardians, these are often family members or close family friends. If no suitable person is available, parents should consult one of the many guardianship agencies that are available to support international pupils.

Communication is key to the success of our current boarding provision, and the strong relationships which exist between parents and the boarding staff.

Pupils are encouraged to maintain regular contact with home, and parents are able to contact boarding staff, either by phone or email, with any questions or concerns they might have, or simply to request their daughter calls home.

Parents receive regular communications from the school, including academic reports, updates on activities and events, and important notices. There are also regular opportunities to meet your daughter’s teachers and members of the boarding teamvirtually, ensuring you remain fully informed about her academic progress and boarding life at King’s High.
