We are fortunate to have exceptional, purpose-built facilities. At King’s, students benefit from:
- Three bright Art studios flooded with natural daylight
- A dedicated Sixth Form studio for independent study and portfolio work
- A ceramics studio with four potters’ wheels, two kilns and clay storage
- A printmaking studio supporting screen printing, etching, lino, woodcut and collagraph techniques
- A darkroom for film processing, cyanotypes, photograms and prints
These facilities enable students to explore any medium of their choice, providing inspiring and empowering opportunities.
fine art curriculum
Art is taught by specialist teachers and delivered to every year group. It is a popular and successful subject at GCSE and A Level, supported by a full-time Art technician who assists with practical teaching and co-curricular clubs. Standards and exam results are outstanding, but, most importantly, students enjoy a fulfilling and exciting experience whilst studying Art.
We have the expertise to support A Level students with Art & Design university applications across a wide range of courses including Fine Art, Graphic Design, Architecture, Product Design and Textiles. Recent leavers have gained places at prestigious institutions such as Cambridge (Architecture), Central Saint Martins (Fine Art), Falmouth (Fine Art) and Edinburgh (Textiles) – all highly competitive courses. We provide comprehensive support throughout the UCAS process, from personal statements to portfolio preparation and mock interviews.
Daily Art clinics and one-to-one sessions offer tailored support, enabling students to continue practical work, explore alternative media and techniques, and extend their creative practice. The department’s success is visible not only in our state-of-the-art facilities and public examination results, but also across the school site, where student work is displayed to demonstrate exceptionally high standards and diversity of approach.
