Friday 25th September – U12 Hockey v Princethorpe
On Friday the Year 7s had their first block hockey fixture against Princethorpe. With the A and B teams travelling away and the C, D, E and F teams at home it was fabulous to see so many pupils out playing competitive games. It was an excellent afternoon all round with every team winning and lots of progress made by all.
Monday 28th September – U18B Netball v Gresham’s School, SNS Shield Round 1
The U18B’s had a long journey to the coast of Norfolk to play the first round of SnS shield, but the result didn’t go our way.
The game had some great movement throughout the whole court, some fabulous long bombs from Eva and timely defence from Charlotte, but Gresham’s players were strong on the attack and took a lot of ball off us which they then converted.
Team spirit remained high throughout the game with lots of learning to take away from a great experience.
Monday 28th September – U14 Netball v RGSW, Round 1 SNS
The U14 netball squad took on RGS in the first round of the SnS Cup. With several players returning from illness and injury, we knew it was going to be a challenging game, but we were fortunate to have a strong bench to utilise.
King’s started strongly, taking control of the game and moving the ball well through court into the attacking circle. Freya and Martha were excellent in attack, with their timing and shooting really on point.
As the game progressed, King’s became a little complacent with our passing and movement, allowing RGS to regain some control. However, with fresh legs coming onto court, King’s quickly regained momentum and began to take control once again. The defensive unit worked incredibly hard to create some excellent turnovers, and we were able to reward that hard work at the other end of the court.
A strong team performance saw King’s finish with a convincing 44–22 victory and progress to the next round of the SnS Cup.
Monday 28th September – U16B Tier 3 Hockey Tournament
On Monday afternoon the U16 B’s played in the WSCHA Teir 3 Hockey tournament. We unfortunately lost our first game against KES. We dominated the second game and took a 3-0 win against Edgbaston High. For the final game we needed a win or draw to qualify. We played strong but we were unable to score but the defence was good and we didn’t concede. We finished second and qualified for the Midlands Tournament. Jasmine – Captain
Monday 28th September – ISA Ski National Competition, Hemel Hempstead
Our Ski Racing team were back in action this week with the ISA Finals in Hemel Hempstead. They clearly enjoyed the opportunity to race on snow and performed superbly. Kitty placed 1st in the U19 individual category with Carys also on the podium in 3rd place. Loretta did superbly to come home with a bronze medal in the U14 category. Overall the KHS A team placed 1st with the B team in 2nd, a tremendous result! Well done to everyone who raced on the day.
Further congratulations go to Kitty, Loretta, Lydia D, Eliza and Lydia M who have this week heard they have been invited to attend the Esskia Alpine Ski Squad training camps in their relevant categories.
Monday 28th September – ESAA Schools Cup Cross Country
With excellent weather conditions for a cross-country race, the girls were in great spirits as they took on some strong runners from schools across Warwickshire.
The Juniors put in a fantastic performance, with four girls finishing in the top 10. The Inters also delivered a strong team performance, with Freya and Maggie both finishing among the top five.
It was fantastic to have a Senior Girls team competing, with Liv M putting in an exceptional run. Overall, it was a brilliant day of racing, with the girls showing great determination, team spirit and enthusiasm throughout.

Tuesday 29th September – U13/U15 ISA National Football, LVS Ascot
The annual visit to LVS Ascot school as always is a close thought competition and again this year was no different. Both teams played 3 league matches with successful results and qualifying for the Q final knockout stage. The U15’s had 2-0 wins in the Q final and Semi-final before putting up a spirited effort against a talented Lingfield team in the final. It was a really encouraging performance with a lot of students missing from the team. The U13 team also had close matches and had to win on a penalty shoot-out in the Q final. Another close match in the Semi-Final and a last-minute goal from KHS seen the game go to penalties after extra time, but unfortunately the team missed out.
Wednesday 30th September – U14 Football ISA Midlands, Stafford Grammar
The U14 team got off to a slow start with a 2-0 loss in the first match in a 6-team league format. The team quickly settled down in the remaining 5 games and won all of them with a close thought 1-0 win over Princethorpe and convincing performances in the remaining fixtures. The first game cost us in the end as the winners was decided on goal difference and we were just edged out by Princethorpe. It was good to see the students back playing and enjoying themselves in the nice sunny conditions.
Thursday 1st October – U13 Badminton v Loughborough HS, SSM Round
In the schools sport magazine U13 badminton competition King’s welcomed Loughborough High for a closely contested match. In the single games, Atia played a blinder against a U13 County player, only losing out 23/18, Yu Ching playing in her first ever match fought for every point and after setting the game at 20 /20 lost 23/21. Amrit, again playing her first badminton match, made the opponent work hard. The score of 21/11 to Loughborough does not reflect the nature of every point. The one singles game that we won was taken by Leila; this was a no nonsense I want to win game, and win she did 21/12.
Thursday 1st October – U13A Netball v Bilton Grange (SSM Round 1)
The team started strongly, creating some very early turnovers that gave them a healthy lead at quarter time. As this was the A squad’s first game of the season, it provided a great opportunity to trial different combinations and maximise court time for all players.
As the game progressed, there were some excellent interceptions from Gabby O, with the team showing positive transitions from defence into attack. The ball moved smoothly through the court, with players working well together to create attacking opportunities. The team also converted a high percentage of their centre passes into goals, demonstrating some excellent attacking structure and composure. This strong build-up play was rewarded with some well-earned goals. End result was a strong win for KHS 58-5.
Player of the match was awarded to Gabby O
We needed to win the two doubles games to take the match to a decider, unfortunately our first pair lost their game 21/11, our second pair played really well together winning their game 21/13.
The students gave it everything, they did a fantastic job.
Although King’s lost the scoreline of 4/2 does not reflect the effort from the team, indeed the score on points was Loughborough 124, King’s 124!
Celebrating Achievements:
Congratulations to Hannah who completed her Coach Foundation training last weekend and is now a fully-fledged Badminton England Coach.
Congratulations to Emily who was voted player of the month at the Mid Warwickshire Badminton Coaching Development Squad last night. Emily’s progress have been rapid and her commitment both on and off the court is first class. Well done, Emily.
Saturday 19th September – King’s High Hockey Tournament U12AB/U13AB
It was a lovely morning for a hockey tournament, with the U13A team ready to take on some tough opponents. The team played really well throughout the tournament, demonstrating some fantastic skills in both attack and defence. They showed great determination and great team spirit.
The U12 teams also had a great morning with the B team taking their first caps for King’s. They developed well throughout the morning and showed great improvements as the day went on! The A team had some tough games but again work hard and have really begun to gel as a team. Some great performances through the team, playing with determination and grit.
Sunday 20th September – ESSkia Team Qualifiers, Swadlincote Ski Slope
The ski teams had a good day at the Swadlincote qualifiers with some good solid performances. Our CAT 3 girls team qualified for the Age Finals on Saturday October 10th which is amazing. Congratulations to Eliza, Lydia, Ottie and Amelia. The girls all raced very well, and we look forward to hearing how they get on the 10th October at the Finals.
Placings: Cat 1 – Nancy – 2nd
Cat 2 – Loretta – 1st & Lydia – 3rd
Cat 3 – Eliza – 1st
Cat 4 – Lydia -3rd
Monday 21st September – U13 Football v Fairfax, ESFA Round 1
It was a great start to the season in the first round at home in the ESFA cup with several year 7 students playing in the match. It was a close match throughout with Fairfax going close on a few occasions in the first half, but 2 breakaway goals put us 2 up with Lily converting from tight angles. The away team pulled a goal back near the end, but KHS held on and into round 2.
Tuesday 22nd September – U15 Netball v Rugby School, ISNC Round 1
A fantastic 36-30 win for the Under 15A Netball team against a strong side from Rugby School. Defensively King’s turned over so much ball throughout the match and their patience bringing the ball through court was rewarded as the game went on. Congratulations to Eleanor and Kitty – both players of the game. We now look forward to finding out who our next opponents are in the ISNC.
Tuesday 22nd September – U13/U15 Tennis v Bromsgrove
The U14 and U16 tennis team both face Bromsgrove in the first round of the Regional Division of the Schools LTA tournament. The U14 team, Made up of Liberty, Maisie, Olivia and Freya but on a great fight against a talented team, all playing some great tennis in their singles but the opposition were just too strong and they were knocked out of the competition. The U16 match swung the other way with solid play from all 5 players, Ava, Mollie, Harriet, Ginny and Jasmine, performing excellently across the singles and double to take the win and progress through to the next stage.
Thursday 24th September – U18 Netball v Bromsgrove, USBC Round 1
We knew the fixture against a very established and strong Bromsgrove team was going to be a tough one. Bromsgrove settled quickly, whilst King’s took a little longer to find their flow. As the game progressed, new connections began to develop, and there was some lovely through-court attack, particularly when the team released the ball with freedom and confidence.
King’s worked incredibly hard in defence and created a number of turnovers, but we struggled to reward ourselves from these opportunities. Unfortunately, Bromsgrove were the stronger team on the day, but King’s continued to fight right until the final whistle. There were plenty of positives to take forward as we continue to build and develop as a team.
Celebrating Achievements
Congratulations to Nancy who represented Sutton Coldfield Hockey Club 1st XI this weekend making her National League debut. This is a wonderful achievement and we look forward to seeing how she gets on throughout this season.
Saturday 12th September – Hockey Fixtures v Bedford Girls School
First XL
In the first pre-season game of the year the girls played really well coming away with a 1-1 draw against Bedford girls’ school. It was a close match with Annie scoring an amazing goal setting us up for a promising rest of the year.
Second XI
A new look second 11 took to the field with a number of U15s stepping up for their first caps whilst the Year 11s were off wandering the countryside for DofE. With end to end hockey of strong attacking play and solid defence the team linked well together and finished with a pleasing 1-1 draw, an excellent final touch from Rhiannon to score.
The U12s started their King’s High playing careers against a strong Bedford school. After a close start they started to dominate and, despite being a new team, played some great hockey! King’s eventually ran out winners five-nil. It was a strong all round performance and we are looking forward to a very busy season ahead with this age group.
After performing well regionally last year the 13s As again came up against a team who expect to do well regionally and nationally. The 13s played some of the best hockey they have played yet to win 6-1. Liv and Bronte both scoring hat tricks. We look forward to returning to Beford on Thursday for the U13 first Cup match of the season.
The U14A and B teams welcomed Bedford to our home pitches for the first matches this year. Playing 11 aside for the first time it was impressive how quickly both teams adapted to having more space to play in. The A team started strongly and immediately put Bedford under pressure, they didn’t let off throughout the game and scored an impressive 6 unanswered goals! The U14B team played some excellent hockey against a mixed team Bedford team where many of their A team players were playing again. They held their own in the middle of the pitch but couldn’t quite convert our own chances in the attacking D. Breakaway goals from Bedford meant they ran out eventual winners in this fixture but the U14B team show lots of promise for the future.
Monday 14th September – U18A Hockey v Shrewsbury, EH Round 1
The first XI hockey team played Shrewsbury on Tuesday in their first cup game of the year. The girls had a very successful game, winning 6-1. Nancy scored 3 great goals, with Holly, Caitlin, and Milly each coming away with a goal too. It was a fantastic game to get the new team to become familiar with each other for the exciting season ahead. The drive was worthwhile and the team are all looking forward to our next game.
Tuesday 15th September – U18 Netball v King’s Worcester, SNS Round 1
50-11 Loss – The Senior team had a tough first game to kick-start their season. With this being a new group of players, connections, particularly in attack, will take time to develop, and this is something we will continue to work on in training.
Defensively, the squad were relentless and created numerous turnovers, particularly in the defensive circle. Moving forward, we now need to make sure we reward these turnovers by converting them into goals. The work rate from every player was faultless and continued right through to the final whistle.
Wednesday 16th September – U14A Hockey v Uppingham, EH Round 1
The U14A hockey team had their first cup fixture of the season away at Uppingham, and what a strong start! They came away with a strong 7-0 victory thanks to their relentless pressure and quick counterattacking ability. It was a real team effort, with numerous turnovers in defence, skilful carriers in midfield and clinical finishes. They look to take this performance into the next round, hopefully going far in the competition.
Wednesday 16th September – U16 Netball v South Bromsgrove High – SNS Round 1
A great 41-25 win for the U16 netball squad against South Bromsgrove with some fantastic shooting and good team work from the girls.
The match was very closely fought over the first 3 quarters but in the final segment of the game the team did exceptionally well but turning over the ball. They move into the next round of the cup.
Thursday 17th September – U13 Hockey v Bedford Girls, ISHC Round 1
Our under 13 A team got a 5:0 victory against Bedford Girls School last Thursday. It was a great performance by the whole team and a special mention for Mimi on her hat-trick!
Thursday 17th September – U16 Hockey v Oundle School, EH Round 1
The U16 team comprising of players from Year 11 and Year 10 travelled to Oundle for their first game together in the EH Tier 1 cup and they most certainly have the right to claim match of the week! It was a rollercoaster from start to finish. After a sloppy start going 2-0 down in the first quarter, then 4-1 down by half time we eventually go going. 4-1 quickly became 4-2 and with 15 minutes to go whilst the score was against us the team knew they had a chance. 4-2 became 4-3 and shortly after 4-4. After the drama of getting back to 4-4 it was tough to concede almost immediately making it 4-5 to Oundle. Back we went again very shortly after 5-5. With 5 minutes to go both teams were pushing for the winner desperate to avoid the dreaded shuffle competition and sadly it was Oundle who found the back to the net one last time. They took the victory 6-5 but it was a tremendous game, played in great spirits and we wish them well in the next round.
Swimming
Congratulations to Verity who has been busy over the summer holidays with a very successful swimming competition at the Youth and Senior Summer Nationals making finals in all five events and coming away with silver in the 50 and 100 fly and bronze in the 100 back. Verity also some very good times that put her in a really good position for English Nationals as well. We look forward to hearing how you get on with this.
Hockey
Congratulations to Honor who played for Mercian Maruaders at hockey tournament in early July and Honor’s team won the trophy tournament beating the Ulster team in the final. Honor also bravely stepped up to take a shuffle in the semi final – it was the 5th one and as it happened quite important as MMs had won 2 and lost 2 at that point and Honor lobbed it over the goal keeper to help her team get to the finals.
