Fran Barsby - Harpist
Fran is known for her passion and innovation. Fran has enjoyed performing in venues such as St John’s Smith Square, The Royal Albert Hall, Blenheim Palace, Lancing College, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Birmingham Town Hall, Chichester Festival Theatre, Chichester Minerva Theatre and many more. Fran is in high demand as a wedding harpist, she enjoys writing and arranging bespoke music unique to each couple. As resident harpist for the harp makers, Pilgrim Harps, Fran enjoys performing and conducting masterclasses throughout Europe.
In 2015 Fran graduated from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire of Music. During her studies Fran enjoyed working with teachers including Catherine White, Gabriella Dall'Olio, Catrin Finch, Imogen Barford, David Watkins, Skaila Kanga, Louisa Maria Cordell, Charlotte Seale, and Anne Hughes Chamberlain.
Fran is Company Director of PoppyHarp limited, a harp hub based in the centre of Warwick. The centre runs concerts and workshops each month, acts as a harp sales room and harp tuition base. Fran has been teaching the harp for over 10 years and she currently teaches privately and at King’s High School for Girls and Warwick Preparatory School.

Fran helps young professional musicians and composers publish their first compositions. Fran is dedicated to inspiring new music for the harp. She is a visiting tutor for the Young Composers Project. In 2015 Fran launched the Future Blend Project. The project is now internationally renowned; it is a year-long composition competition that pairs harpists and composers together in order to create some incredible new music. Fran has enjoyed working with a wide variety of musicians such as Anne Denholm, Eleanor Turner, Kirsty Devaney, Dominic Sewell, Paul Lewis, Edmund Joillfe, Shelley FairPlay, Amy Turk and more. Fran also runs the Harp on Wight Composition Competition and the Wild Strings Pop and Jazz Composition Competition.
