Our students are passionate about ideas and eager to explore the complex questions and emerging issues shaping the world.
As a Centre for Creative Thinking, we lead the way in helping pupils become innovative and original thinkers, able to respond creatively to real-world challenges.
Pupils experience the distinctiveness of our approach in multiple ways. Most visibly, our ethos is embodied in the Learning Wheel, which underpins the Curriculum of the Future Project. This bold vision for the coming years focuses on three key areas: the content of our curriculum, the skills acquired through high-quality learning, and the habits and character traits that remain with our students long after they leave King’s.
At the heart of this vision is our goal to be a community of Changemakers. We want our pupils to use their learning to make a positive difference in the world. Surrounding this core are our key dispositions: independence, collaboration, persistence, curiosity, and imagination — qualities that enable pupils to thrive well beyond school.
The penultimate ring of the Wheel represents actions that bring these dispositions to life. For example, inquisitiveness is cultivated through investigation, questioning, research, challenging assumptions, and exploring ideas. The outermost ring represents the wider horizons of a King’s education: preparing pupils to seize future opportunities as rounded, outward-looking individuals ready to flourish in every aspect of life.
Pupils in Years 7, 8, and 9 are invited to complete our Changemaker Award, recognising imagination, collaboration, and community responsibility. In Years 10 and 11, pupils study three unique courses alongside their GCSEs:
Global Changemaker Programme – Covering Social Justice, Global Citizenship, Law & the Legal System, and Climate Change.
Innovation and Entrepreneurship Programme – exploring Sustainable Engineering, Data Analysis, Neuroscience, and Entrepreneurship.
Science for Change Programme – including Experimental Science, Conservation, Sustainable Synthesis, and Medical Physics.
These EduQual-accredited courses are unique to King’s High, challenging pupils to think critically, solve real-world problems, and develop skills for the future.
Success at King’s High is measured not just in grades, but in value added. Pupils consistently exceed baseline predictions, achieving on average nearly a full grade higher per subject. Collectively, our Year 11 pupils achieved close to 1,000 grades above baseline predictions, demonstrating the transformative impact of inspirational teaching within a culture of ambition, support, and care.
