We are delighted have recently expanded our provision with the introduction of several CTEC courses, offering an exciting pathway for pupils seeking a more applied style of learning. The Extended Project Qualification at King’s High is a highly valued component of the Sixth Form curriculum, designed to foster independence and prepare students for life beyond school. It allows students to explore a topic of personal interest in depth, developing essential skills in research, critical thinking, project management, and problem-solving.
Students choose their own project title and determine the form of their final submission, which may be a written report, artefact, or performance, accompanied by a reflective commentary that assesses their thinking and development throughout the project. Weekly taught skills sessions support students in planning, researching, and executing their projects, alongside one-to-one supervisions with an allocated EPQ supervisor who encourages creativity and ambitious thinking.
The EPQ explicitly develops skills that underpin academic success, including resilience, organisation, time management, and independent learning. It also encourages curiosity, creativity, and self-directed learning, qualities that universities and employers highly value.
At King’s High, students have an excellent record of achievement in the EPQ, with over 90% attaining A or A grades* in recent years. The qualification offers students the opportunity to demonstrate not only academic excellence but also the broader skills and attributes that will support their ambitions and success beyond Sixth Form.
All students in our Sixth Form have the opportunity to undertake the King’s High Baccalaureate, a unique qualification offered alongside A Levels and the EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) and accredited by EduQual at Level 2 (Blue) or Level 3 (Jade).
The Baccalaureate is designed to celebrate each student’s skills and achievements across leadership, personal development, service to others, physical endeavour, cultural pursuits, communication, workplace knowledge, and scholarship. It encourages participation in King’s High’s extensive range of clubs, societies, and enrichment activities, while clearly demonstrating to universities, employers, and degree apprenticeship providers that students have developed essential skills such as creativity, empathy, and teamwork.
Unique to King’s, the Baccalaureate recognises the full breadth of Sixth Form achievement beyond traditional A Levels. Students accumulate credits across academic societies, volunteering, cultural experiences, creative projects, and physical wellbeing. Completing the programme reflects a well-rounded, ambitious, and resilient individual, fully prepared for higher education and life beyond school.
