Mr Grier (History) reports: ‘With the move to Project One Campus fast approaching, King’s High girls spent a day getting to know the people who occupied the site around 1800 years ago. Remains of a significant Roman building were discovered in the area around the site, and building ceased until Warwickshire Archaeology had examined and documented everything.  The find is of significant archaeological and local historical interest, and our students were among the first to be able to explore some of the finds from the site and begin to draw some conclusions about the people who lived and worked there during the Roman period. 

The students were supported in their endeavours by Caroline Rann, the lead archaeologist on Project One Campus, Paul Booth, the former Senior Project Manager for Oxford Archaeology, who has published widely on Roman Warwickshire, and Professor Alison Cooley of the Classics and Ancient History Department at the University of Warwick, as well as members of the History and Classics Departments at King’s High and Warwick School.  They were also joined by artist and sculptor Liz Middleton who has been commissioned to produce a commemoration of the Roman presence on the site.  She ran a workshop with the students to explore their thoughts on the connections between ourselves and our Roman Ancestors. Having explored the finds and worked with the archaeologists the girls set about writing up their findings in the form of a guide book which we hope will be available to visitors to the new King’s High School.’
