Application Process

Year 7

This is the main point of entry to our school. We generally welcome around 110 pupils into Year 7 from around 50 different schools, both state and independent. 

The process is as follows:

  • Interview with the Head or a member of the Senior Team, combined with a personal tour of the school and a meeting with the Head of Admissions, to take place before the entrance examination
  • Registration to sit the Examination by completion of the application form which can be found here application form deadline 1 December
  • Application for Subject Scholarships by the completion of the relevant Subject Scholarship application form deadline 1 December
  • Scholarship Assessments/Auditions to be held w/c 7 January
  • Entrance examination 16 January consisting of papers in English (45 minutes) combined comprehension and creative writing, Mathematics (45 minutes) and Verbal Reasoning (60 minutes including 15 minutes practice) see below for sample papers
  • Reference requested from your daughter's current school 
  • Publication of results Week Commencing 8 February

Transition to King’s

Transition - we understand that starting a new school is a big step and we want all girls to look forward with confidence and eager anticipation to this next phase in their lives.

We believe that familiarising herself with her new school, getting to know fellow pupils and meeting her teachers before her first day will give your daughter a great start.

We would strongly encourage her to attend as many of our events as she can; these will be as follows:

  • 14 December Christmas at King’s for all girls who have registered to sit the entrance examination
  • 8 February The King’s Tea for all girls who sat the entrance examination
  • June tbc Moving Up Induction afternoon for parents and all girls who will be joining King’s High
  • Summer Term Treasure Hunt and Tea for all new Year 7 girls

Entry at Mid Years

Places occasionally become available in Years 8 and 9 and we are usually able to accept a few girls into the GCSE course at the start of Year 10. Acceptance is based on performance in an examination in English, Mathematics and a Modern Foreign Language, an interview and a report from your daughter’s current school.

Sixth Form

We are always delighted to welcome girls from other schools to join us in Lower Sixth.  We receive enquiries from girls at both state and independent schools.

The process is as follows:

  • Interview with the Head of Sixth Form, combined with a personal tour of the school and a meeting with the Head of Admissions
  • Registration to apply for a place by completion of the application form which can be found here application form
  • Application for a Scholarship by the completion of the relevant Subject Scholarship application form deadline 7 October
  • Scholarship Examinations/Assessments/Auditions 4 – 13 November
  • Scholarship Interviews 9 – 13 November
  • Application on predicted grades – no deadline but early registration recommended
  • Reference requested from your daughter's current school 
  • Publication of Scholarship results 7 December
  • Provisional offers based on predicted grades – ongoing

We will usually make a provisional offer after an interview and on receipt of a satisfactory school report and GCSE predictions. You should be capable of gaining very good GCSE results, with at least the equivalent of a 6 in all of your subjects and 9 - 7 in the subjects you intend to take at A Level.

Transition to King’s

  • We run an Induction programme in the last week of the summer term for all girls moving into Lower Sixth
