PSHEE, Your Future, Health, Fitness and Wellbeing, The King's High Baccalaureate

PSHEE and Your Future

A Sixth Form-specific programme of PSHEE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education) was created in 2021, enabling pupils from King’s High and Warwick School to think about and discuss together the major issues facing young people in society.  The programme involves nearly 500 pupils and over 20 teachers from the two schools. Mixed groups of girls and boys stay together all year, rotating around a carousel of topics which take place across both school. The lessons are 50 minutes every fortnight.

Lower Sixth PSHEE: Week A, Wednesday p2

Upper Sixth PSHEE: Week B, Monday p2

Pupils from King’s High also take part in the Your Future programme, again a 50-minute fortnightly lesson. Here we develop thinking on some of the topics from the PSHEE course and begin forward planning for future directions. These lessons all take place at King’s High with King’s High teachers.

Lower Sixth Your Future: Week B, Wednesday p2

These lessons are a valuable part of the curriculum, and the school does not give permission for pupils to miss PSHEE or Your Future to meet academic or other deadlines.

Health, Fitness and Wellbeing

Health, Fitness and Wellbeing is a weekly timetabled lesson, Tuesdays p3-4. There is a great range of activities to choose term by term. Students should attend it as they would any other lesson, punctually and ready to get involved.

  • Anyone who has forgotten their kit will be able to borrow spare kit from the PE department.

  • Anyone who is injured or ill should attend the start of the Health, Fitness and Wellbeing lesson, with kit, and report to the member of staff leading that option. There are many activities that are appropriate to take part in while injured (e.g. umpiring). This applies even when parents have emailed in.

  • If there are reasons why a pupil is unable to do games longer term (e.g. a medical exemption) then this should be raised with the Head of Sixth Form, Director of Sport, and Head of Year. In these circumstances individual arrangements will be agreed.

These lessons are a valuable part of the curriculum, and the school does not give permission for pupils to miss Health, Fitness and Wellbeing to meet academic or other deadlines.

The King’s High Baccalaureate

Level 2 (Blue) or Level 3 (Jade)

All students in our Sixth Form have the opportunity to take part in our King’s High Baccalaureate. This is a unique qualification, accredited at Level 2 or Level 3 by EduQual, that is offered in addition to A Levels and EPQ. It is designed to showcase each individual’s skills and talents in areas of:

  • leadership

  • personal development

  • service to others

  • physical endeavour

  • cultural pursuits

  • communication

  • knowledge for the workplace and scholarship.

Not only does it encourage participation in the many opportunities here at King’s with our vast array of clubs and societies, it also demonstrates clearly to future employers, universities and degree apprenticeships that students have developed key skills such as creativity, empathy and teamwork

The Baccalaureate is launched in autumn term of Lower Sixth. Pupils choose either Blue or Jade level, logging evidence of their participation and achievements to complete the award within their own timeframe. We find that many pupils successfully complete their Baccalaureate before the end of Lower Sixth year.
